Kids Portfolio Photography
A child's portfolio has a job to do: show a casting director range, clearly, in about six images. That means clean headshots with genuine expression, full-length frames that show posture and proportion, and a handful of character or wardrobe looks. We shoot to that brief. What we do not do is over-retouch children — a portfolio that does not look like the child who walks into the room fails at exactly the moment it matters.

What we would tell you on the first call
Two honest notes. Agencies want to see the child, not the styling — six clean, well-lit frames beat thirty elaborate ones every time. And if a shoot is booked because an "agency" asked you to pay for photographs through them, please look into it carefully first. Legitimate agencies do not require you to use a specific photographer, and we would rather lose a booking than be the studio at the end of that arrangement.

What does a child's modelling portfolio actually need?+

How much retouching do you do on children?+
Very little, deliberately. A portfolio that does not look like the child who walks into the casting room fails at exactly the moment it matters. We remove transient things — a scratch, a bruise — and leave the child looking like themselves.
How do you get a natural expression from a young child?+
By running the session as a game rather than a job, and by shooting continuously rather than asking for a held smile. Direction is pitched at the child's age. Sessions are kept short for exactly this reason — a tired child photographs as a tired child.
An agency told us to book photographs through them. Should we?+
Look into it carefully first. Legitimate agencies do not require you to use a specific photographer or to pay upfront for a portfolio as a condition of representation. If that is the arrangement being offered, treat it as a warning sign. We would rather lose a booking than be the studio at the end of that arrangement.
What do we get?+
Twenty to thirty edited images across all looks, a selected core set of six to eight portfolio frames, agency-standard crops and sizing, and both colour and black-and-white variants. A printed zed card layout is optional.
