Naming ceremonies, cradle ceremonies and ear piercing all share a shape: a short, intense ritual surrounded by a long, busy gathering. We cover the ritual as documentary work, without interrupting it, and take the portraits in the gaps. Knowing the sequence matters more than the equipment here — being in position for the naming itself, or for the moment the cradle first swings, is not something you can fix afterwards.

What we would tell you on the first call
Tell us who is holding the baby during the naming, and where the elders will be standing. It sounds like a small detail; it decides whether we are on the correct side of the room for the one frame that cannot be repeated. And if the ceremony is at home, send a photograph of the room beforehand — Chennai apartments vary enormously in light, and we would rather bring the right kit than improvise around a tube light.

How long is the coverage?+
Half-day covers the ceremony and the meal that follows, roughly four hours. Full-day runs from preparation through to the end of the gathering. Most naming ceremonies are comfortably covered in a half day.
Can we combine the ceremony with a studio portrait session?+
Yes, and it is worth it. Ceremony days are busy and the baby is passed between a great many people; a calm studio session on a different day produces the portrait that goes on the wall.
